When I first saw the EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 I noted that AMD's own promotional launch slides compared the RX 5600 XT against the GTX 1660 Super and GTX 1660 Ti - but this beefier Turing GPU with raytracing and DLSS features will now be lowered into the RX 5600 XT's price bracket. "In case you are currently testing the Radeon 5600 XT," began the message, which went on to announce the reduced Founders Edition pricing. I noticed Tom's Hardware's report on this price cut news included a quote from a statement it received from Nvidia, about the GeForce RTX 2060 Founders Edition price cuts. The timing of the raytracing hardware equipped RTX 2060's price cut might be seen as Nvidia's attempt to spoil AMD's Radeon RX 5600 XT hard launch. Furthermore, if you browse US retail sites you can find other brand RTX 2060 cards like the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 OC GG with WindForce 2X cooler at $299, after $30 rebate (Newegg link). This price is $50 lower than it was previously, recently advertised at. Now it has been noted that Nvidia has changed the price of its own GeForce RTX 2060 Founders Edition to $299 stateside. However, at the time EVGA seemed to indicate the price slashing initiative was simply its own, and nothing to do with the GPU maker. Some initially commented on the move as an Nvidia plan to undermine the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT launch. These could be found advertised on EVGA's own store for $279 and $299, respectively, with instant rebates applied to the shopping cart. Actually there were two such cards in the new 'KO' range, the EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 KO and the EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 KO Ultra. If you can pick one up for under $275 (another stretch) then you've snagged yourself a fantastic bargain.Last week at CES 2020, EVGA began promoting a new GeForce RTX 2060 SKU which came in below the US$300 level. That's why, if you're looking for 1080p gaming, and not extreme refresh rates, and nothing else (I know, it's a stretch) then the RTX 2060 at a good deal this Black Friday may be a reasonable call. There's also a good chance that it will sell out almost immediately and you'll be waiting well into 2021 for a chance to pick one up. There's a good chance this card will be significantly faster than the RTX 2060, and offer greater ray tracing capabilities, and likely arrive for a similar price too. This is a tricky one, because I know that I personally would wait for the RTX 3060 to at least be announced before making my mind up. Should I buy the Nvidia RTX 2060 and at what price? With the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 both offering significant core count and performance improvements over their 20-series compadres, we suspect the RTX 3060 will be a card worth waiting for. With stock hard to come by for all other RTX 30-series cards, we're expecting Nvidia to wait until the last moment when it's stockpiled plenty of cards before unleashing what is sure to be the most popular RTX 30-series card unto the world. We're as certain as we can be that Nvidia will launch an RTX 3060 eventually, although whether it will arrive this side of New Year is another thing entirely. There's no other direct competition to this card just yet, unless you're willing to spend a little more on an RTX 2060 Super, but Nvidia is undoubtedly close to announcing the RTX 2060's successor. Although you can pick up slightly slower RX 5600 XT's for $10-30 less. They're also similarly priced around the $300 mark, if you want a decent card with the fastest innards. Some pricing and BIOS shenanigans at launch meant that the RX 5600 XT ended up squaring off with the RTX 2060, and depending on the game you choose they often trade blows back and fourth. The main competition to the RTX 2060 right now is AMD's RX 5600 XT. What are the alternatives to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060? That means you can get DLSS upscaling in-game, which can help push the RTX 2060 performance just that little bit further in select games. It's the cheapest card to support Nvidia's new fangled RT Cores and Tensor Cores too, for ray tracing and AI acceleration respectively.
